We will be at Casa in Great Dunmow, Essex, on Friday 12th of January, and at The Black Lion in High Roding on Sunday 14th of January.
These are 2 fantastic places, and we haven't been there for several years, so come on down and join the fun!

My dear friend George Smith has just passed away.
George and I first met at my sister Maxine's house in Le Bouscat in the summer of 1995. I'd arrived in France for her wedding, and George had already offered to perform on her big day, as a wedding present. Maxine told him "my brother's a musician, would you mind if he joins you for a few songs?"
Not knowing anything about me, I guess George felt that as I was the bride's brother he couldn't really refuse!
Anyway, we met up at her house and... it was musical love at first sight. I was so amazed to find someone who loved the same kind of music I did... and WHAT A VOICE!
He had the high notes I couldn't reach... and the hair I'd never had...
Me:"Crowded House?"
George: "love 'em!".
Me: "the Beatles"
George: "I love them!"
Me: "Bread?"
George: "you actually know Bread? Love them..."
Me: "James Taylor?"
George: "he's my idol!"
And it went on....
We played at the wedding, and so began a 28 year friendship and musical partnership that has given me so much pleasure and so many happy memories, far too many to mention here.
We teamed up with Mark Sullivan and called ourselves "The Great Shakes". Bimbo Acock joined us on sax and keyboards.
Regular gigs at the Bonne Etape in Villeneuve de Duras... little Hattie joining us to sing a song or two...
George's son Tom grew up and developed into an amazing musician in his own right, and played with us, with George, with me...
I was there when his first mariage sadly ended... and I was there when he married his soulmate Sandie.
Charlie was born, and the Smith family got another future brilliant musician to add to the team!
We put a Beatles band together and performed all over the place, from Paris to Bordeaux and beyond.
George and I created a Simon & Garfunkel tribute duo, which was always a joy to perform.
He even put me up for a while when I was "between relationships"...
And bloody hell we LAUGHED A LOT!
I particularly remember an incident when we were playing at a wedding at the Chateau de Duras... a particular joke just sent us all into a fit of uncontrollable, hysterical laughter... just as the mother of the bride came over to ask us something very serious...
I (almost) never saw him get angry.
Over recent years we saw a little less of each other... mainly due to geography (George lived the other side of Bordeaux from me, while I lived on the Atlantic coast). He became the undisputed godfather of English weddings in the southwest of France, while I persued various projects.
It didn't matter... we still called each other, saw each other, ate, drank and laughed together. He and Sandie stayed at my house while I was off somewhere doing something or other... and he was always up for exchanging a funny text or five, when he knew our mutual British sense of humour would appreciate a particular joke.
And so three weeks ago, as we drove out to Meilhan to see him, for what was to be the very last time, I had such a feeling of dread and foreboding along the way... and such gut-wrenching sadness.
What I found once I got there, however, was a haven of absolute love and tenderness in that house... his daughter Hattie was there, Charlie and his girfriend Jodie, friends Paul Tiernan and his wife... grandchildren... pets... there was just such an aura of LOVE surrounding him. George was in a coccoon of kindness... the sort of love that can only come from being a genuinely and profoundly GOOD PERSON, a great, warm and loving father, husband and friend.
You've left us way too soon George. You had so much more to live, but the life you had was filled with giving so much joy to so many people. I know you really enjoyed doing that... it was part of you.
George wrote some brilliant songs. They deserve to be heard. Tom, George, Paul and I were working on some of them during the Covid lockdowns. I do hope they'll be finished and made available in the future.
I can't think of you in the past tense.
I will miss you old pal, and will always love you, my friend.

Malgré le peu de concerts en ce moment, sachez qu'on pense bien à vous !
Avec la situation actuelle c'est difficile de prévoir si même les soirées privées auront lieu... et en ce moment on nous exige de ne PAS FAIRE DANSER les gens...!
Difficile de ne pas être nostalgique, quand on se souvient des soirées chaleureuses des hivers passés (les "Christmas Parties" de l'Ambassade d'Angleterre, ou les fêtes de Rolls-Royce à Toulouse...).
J'ai du annuler mon voyage en Angleterre le weekend dernier (et j'ai raté le concert prévu à Cambridge avec Speedometer).
En tout cas, on vous souhait de très bonnes fêtes de fin d'année, en espérant que 2022 soit pleine de bonne santé (surtout), du bonheur et beaucoup d'amour.

Holà de Marbella ! On se repose quelques jours sous une chaleur écrasante en Andalousie.
La rentrée va être assez chargée car je vais travailler sur un projet très intéressant avec le Conservatoire de Mérignac, avec mon ami tabliste Matthias Labbé. Il s'agit d'une collaboration avec des musiciens de la musique classique occidentale... quelle joie d'entendre ses compositions jouées sur des violoncelles, des violons, des flûtes, des cuivres... dans le cadre d'une saison culturelle autour de l'Inde.
Si notre répertoire pop-rock vous manque, n'oubliez pas que tous les albums se trouvent en format streaming. Allez voir sur votre plateforme préférée (Spotify, Deezer, Apple Music, Amazon...).

On dirait que l'été est arrivé ! Il fait beau et chaud, il y a des bouchons monstres autour du Bassin d'Arcachon...

I haven't written here for quite a while, as to be honest there's not much to talk about in terms of music news!
We're starting to get some private concert dates sorted out for... 2022, but nobody can really commit seriously to anything while this Covid shit is still around.
In the meantime I'm very busy with non-musical business. I was in Paris last month starting my Commercial Pilot's Licence training. It's a correspondence course that will take me around a year to complete... if i'm lucky... and there's a hell of a lot of studying to do.
I'm also very busy with teaching English to pilots and other aircrew. Some of the teaching is done online, some is done face-to-face in the classroom (I'm down in Nîmes for the week doing just that, and I'm sitting in the hotel room as I write this).
This time last year we were all locked down, so this year it does feel like we are finally starting to find our way out of this pandemic. Spring is here, the birds are singing, there's light at the end of the tunnel!

L'album "Indian Summer est sorti il y a 10 ans déjà...
Inspiré de mon premier voyage en Inde, c'était la première fois que je tentais de mélanger les sonorités indiennes avec mes propres compositions pop et électro.
La reprise de la chanson "Running Up That Hill" de Kate Bush reste mon morceau le plus écouté en streaming. C'est sympa de regarder les relevés et de voir qu'on m'écoute aux USA, en Australie, en Allemagne, en Suède, en Écosse...
Beaucoup de chemin parcouru depuis cet album, et beaucoup de musique à venir, on l'espère.
Si vous avez une copie de l'album en format CD, gardez-le... c'est un collector ! Il n'y en a plus depuis quelques années, mais vous pouvez toujours écouter l'album sur les plateformes de streaming comme Spotify, Deezer, Apple Music et Amazon.

It's Groundhog Day again... or so it feels. I'm looking forward to being able to announce some music news... maybe even a gig or two, but that doesn't seem to be on the cards for a while yet.
I recorded a French TV magazine show with Matthias and Shekinah in December, and we're waiting for it to be edited so we can see the finished result... watch this space.
Later today I'm going back into my studio / cupboard to work on a track written by my friend Martin from Lost Colours in the UK.

I begin my Commercial Pilot's Licence ground school next month.

Je vous souhaite de très bonnes fêtes de fin d'année, malgré les circonstances...
Cette année ça sera très différent pour tout le monde bien sûr.
Personnellement il m'est arrivé plusieurs choses positives pendant cette année 2020 plutôt pourrie : un nouvel album (vinyle) sorti en mai (à commander !), beaucoup de beaux vols, et surtout ma naturalisation française le 27 novembre!
Je pense surtout à mes amis touchés particulièrement par ce virus, directement ou indirectement... ceux qui ont perdu leur emploi d'une manière temporaire (comme moi) ou permanante.
J'espère que 2021 sera un peu mieux, avec moins de maladies, moins de stresse, moins de soucis, plus d'amour, plus de positivité, de nouveaux rêves et de belles aventures.
Jouer de la musique avec mes copains, devant un public, ça me manque énormément.

Well, what can we say about Christmas this year? 2020 has certainly been full of uncertainty and surprises (most of them unpleasant...!). It won't be the same kind of Christmas of course, but I hope you have a good one in spite of everything.
Let's hope that 2021 brings good health, more positivity, less stress and sadness, new adventures and dreams.
2020 brought me at least one bit of good news... my French nationality! I've also been able to enjoy some great flying, a little music from time to time, and of course I released a new album (in case you hadn't noticed!).
Look after yourselves and let's hope things get back to a semblance of normality soon.

Pour la première fois depuis 25 ans je ne travaillerais pas le 31 décembre. Cette année bizarre et plutôt triste se termine avec des annulations symboliques pour nous : c'est la première fois depuis plus de 15 ans que nous ne serons pas à Toulouse pour la fête de Noël de nos amis chez Rolls-Royce... Bordeaux Tastings annulé... quelle tristesse !
Au moins j'ai eu une bonne nouvelle... je suis français ! J'ai vu mon nom dans la liste de naturalisations du Journal Officiel le 29 novembre.
Passez de bonnes fêtes, en espérant de pouvoir vous annoncer quelques concerts en 2021...

I am now French!
I get to keep my British nationality too, but after two years of waiting, providing endless documents, etc., I'm absolutely delighted to be European again, to have a vote again, and to be a citizen of this wonderful country that took me in and gave me a fresh chance in life 25 years ago.
As an ex-pat, I wasn't allowed to vote in the Brexit referendum (along with 1.2 million other Brits living and working abroad). That's a particularly British rule... possibly the only country in the "free" world that prevents its citizens from taking part in democracy simply because they work abroad (basically cutting off their birth rights).
No more freedom of movement...? I simply cannot understand how taking away freedoms and putting back barriers could be perceived as an achievement.
The UK had a really good deal within the EU: as one of the top 5 contributing countries, Britain wielded a lot of weight within the Union. A huge number of the "hated" laws and regulations Brexiteers were so keen do do away with were drawn up by UK negotiators within the EU! We had control of our currency already... we didn't adopt the Euro. We had control of our borders already... we weren't in Schengen. Yes, Europe is FAR from perfect, but surely it's better to reform it from within, as part of the community.
How can it be economically and environmentally better to favour trade with the US and Australia rather than 27 countries geographically on our doorstep?
Taking back control... and giving it to who? Boris Fucking Johnson??? Hancock??? Gove???
I love Britain and I always will, but I'm afraid I really don't recognise what it has become. I don't plan on returning there to live... from now on I'll be a really great tourist (once this Covid bullshit is over, and we can travel again).
I still insist on English tea, I still search for London Pride or Spitfire ale in the beer sections of my local supermarkets... and yes, I love Marmite (ideally spread over cottage cheese on toast). My partner makes outstanding Fish & Chips and the best Indian food ever.
Anyway, MERCI la France for giving me the best Christmas gift ever... early... and just in time before the 1st of January 2021.
At last I can happily say "fuck you Boris Johnson, fuck you Nigel Farrage, fuck you Daily Mail, fuck you David Cameron, fuck you Theresa May, fuck you Wetherspoons, fuck Brexit!".
Good luck for the future Dis-United Kingdom. I still have family in Britain and I sincerely hope things work out well.

Jeudi 29 octobre, avec le confinement (version 2) imminent, je suis parti en train à Libourne pour ramener le Jodel avant la date fatidique du 30 octobre. Dans cette vidéo je montre le vol du retour, et je dévoile nos magnifiques sièges, créés et installés par nos amis Xavier et Gaëlle de Cockpit Design.

Il y a du nouveau sur les plateformes de streaming (Apple Music, Deezer, Spotify, Amazon...) : le EP "Summer Of Love" !
Cherchez-le sous le nom Mark Brenner... Il s'agit de 2 reprises, "A Horse With No Name" et "Strawberry Fields Forever", enregistrées avec mon pote Thomas Drouart aux claviers, et arrangées "à notre sauce".
RDV demain (vendredi au Cuvier, Artigues-Près-Bordeaux (33) pour un concert (gratuit) en trio (20h30) et le 23 octobre au Temple Tibetain de Bordeaux (33) pour une soirée Karmarama en trio.

D'abord, merci à Max et ses amis pour le commentaire gentil dans notre livre d'or... ça nous fait très plaisir de retouver des amis chaque été !
Ce soir (mercredi 29) nous serons de retour à l'Escale, Cap Ferret (33), puis nous prenons quelques jours de vacances avant de revenir à Biscarrosse (40) le 10 août. En effet, c'est bien la première année depuis plus de 20 ans que je me permets de prendre des vacances d'été ! Au départ on devait partir en Espagne, mais finalement ça sera un petit "road trip" dans ce beau pays qui s'appelle la France...!
A propos, pour fêter mon anniversaire le 24 juillet, j'ai fait un vol d'Arcachon à Biarritz, avec un passage fabuleux autour des nuages... allez voir la vidéo sur ma chaîne YouTube (accessible via le lien dans le menu principal de ce site).

Ca y est ! J'ai enfin une date de concert grand public à vous annoncer ! Nous serons à l'Escale, Cap Ferret, mardi 14 juillet (à partir de 19h pour une courte partie apéro, puis de 21h à 23h).
Nous avons pas mal de soirées privées mais les concerts publics se font rares... il faudrait donc en profiter ! Cet été j'ai bien l'intention de profiter du cadre exceptionnel du Bassin D'Arcachon. J'aurais un peu plus de temps libre cette année...
Pour ceux qui ont suivi les histoires des oisillons trouvés dans mon jardin, Eggwina n'a pas survécu, et Eggward a tenu 2 jours à la LPO avant de mourrir, lui aussi, malgré les soins... Je vous encourage de soutenir la LPO qui fait du travail remarquable.

Here in France the lockdown is gradually being relaxed, and bars & restaurants have finally been allowed to re-open, although with certain restrictions in place.
What does this new found "freedom" mean for the music and entertainment sector? Well, speaking for myself, not much has changed. I feel like we're in a no-man's land... neither open nor closed!
Potential venues are facing up to how they can re-open, and how many punters they're allowed to accommodate. Booking live music probably isn't number one on their list of priorities, although some places have started planning concerts.
My band has a couple of private parties coming up towards the end of June, then a few public shows (outdoors) in July and August... asuming they'll be allowed to go ahead.
My hopes of organising a proper launch for the new album, with a few concerts to mark the occasion, have so far been scuppered.
That's probably the most frustrating thing, aside from the obvious financial hardship caused by simply not performing!
Still, I'm staying positive... and I'm delighted to say that Martin from Lost Colours in the UK is working on a few remixes of tracks from the new album. He created magic with his remix of "Paschim Vihar" last year, so I'm looking forward to hearing his latest work.
He loves the new album, and his enthusiasm is a real boost.
The post has been very slow and unreliable during the past couple of months, but many of you have received your copy of "Symmetry" at last. Thank you for your kind comments...I'm glad you like it!
If you haven't ordered the album yet, please do... it's the best way of showing your support at this strange time... it's strange for everyone of course...

During the lockdown I had the pleasure to collaborate with my old friends Speedometer, the UK's foremost funk band. You can watch the "lockdown live" version of a song we recorded together by clicking on the link.
Leigh, Chris, Simon and I played together years ago in The Persuaders... a group which later morphed into Speedometer and went on to greater and higher things. Their new album "Our Kind Of Movement" is out now, and it's really excellent. I collaborated on one of the tracks, playing sitar on "Kashmir". The song has been added to Spotify's soul/funk playlist and has enjoyed thousands of streams so far. I hope you enjoy the live version!

Quand on regarde les réseaux sociaux (chose que j'essaie de faire de moins en moins en ce moment...), on voit beaucoup d'artistes très justement inquiets pour leur avenir post-confinement, car c'est pendant la période de mars à septembre qu'ont lieu la plupart de nos activités professionnelles. C'est également pendant cette période que nous "faisons" la plupart de nos heures déclarées (pour les intermittents du spectacle).
Personnellement, j'ai bien peur que cette saison estivale, qui commence à pointer son nez, sera l'hécatombe pour les concerts privés et publics. Pour le moment, la quasi totalité de nos soirées privées sont ou annulées ou reportées à l'annee prochaine. Concernant les concerts publics, il ne reste que 6 dates en juillet et en août (à l'Escale au Cap Ferret), qui auront peut-être lieu si les règles de déconfinement le permets. Je remercie l'équipe de l'Escale d'ailleurs... le seul "employeur" qui m'a téléphoné personnellement pour nous rassurer qu'il compte sur notre présence SI la permission est accordée...
Je remercie également toutes les personnes qui m'ont appelé, qui s'inquiétaient pour moi et pour mes amis musiciens... y compris des gens que je n'imaginais pas avoir une pensée particulière pour nous (je ne les citerais pas mais ils se reconnaîtront...).
En attendant, j'assume ma décision de sortir mon nouvel album malgré les circonstances. Un album entièrement financé par mes propres moyens (c'est à dire avec un emprunt à la banque).
Je remercie infiniment ceux (pour l'instant peu nombreux) qui ont pré-commandé l'album... certains l'ont commandé en format vinyle sans même posséder une platine ! En faisant cela, ils me soutiennent réellement. Je m'en souviendrais.
Pour ceux qui préfèrent écouter en streaming, OK je comprends... achetez plutôt un t-shirt !
Il est peut-être vrai qu'on se rends compte de l'importance de la musique dans nos vies, surtout pendant des périodes difficiles... dommage que nous vivons une époque ou la musique est devenue jettable et sans valeur (merci le streaming, merci le progrès...).
On parle beaucoup de "solidarité"... malgré mes revenus quasiment nuls j'ai moi-même commandé, contribué, collaboré... et je continuerai à le faire. Un copain dans la merde...? OK, 20€ c'est supportable... je contribue. Il y a 2 semaines j'avais commandé un album d'un groupe sur lequel j'avais joué gratuitement. Pour l'instant ils n'ont pas renvoyé l'ascenseur...
En ce qui concerne les vidéos "confinement" je n'en ferai plus. Il faudrait mieux utiliser le temps pour chercher un moyen de gagner sa vie.
Bon fin de confinement à tous... et bon courage aux artistes. Il va en falloir du courage.

C'est vraiment bizarre... vivre en suspens en attendant le feu vert pour reprendre nos activités habituelles.
Je ne sais pas quand on pourra rejouer en live... et à quoi ressemblera la saison estivale ici sur le Bassin d'Arcachon. Ca fait plus de 20 ans que ma vie professionnelle tourne autour de cette période cruciale entre mai et septembre...! Plusieurs dates (surtout des soirées privées) sont reportées à 2021.
Je reste néanmoins très active, mais dans d'autres domaines : des séances dans mon studio (je viens de enregistrer une partie de contrebasse jouée à l'archet pour une chanson de mon pote George Smith... une première !), je travaille le sitar, j'essaie d'avancer sur le lancement du nouvel album...
Je me rends compte que j'ai énormément de chance d'avoir un jardin... je n'imagine même pas l'enfer qui doivent vivre des familles confinées dans des appartements, avec des gosses de bas âge...!
Demain je vais tourner une courte vidéo pour la ville d'Artigues-Près-Bordeaux. Nous devions y jouer en mars mais la date a été reportée à la rentrée, et on m'a demandé de filmer un petit extrait pour remonter le moral des habitants en attendant. On va tenter !

I hope you're enjoying the new-look web site. Don't hesitate to let me know if you find anything that's not working properly or could be improved. We'll be making changes on a regular basis, updating the site over the weeks to come.
I'm intending on weaning myself off social media a bit... Facebook for example! It's really becoming a dumping ground for people spewing bile and spreading spurious misinformation, and I've found myself wasting valuable time on futile replies and comments. Hopefully from now on, if I have something to say you'll find me here!
As you can see, the "Discography" page has been renamed "Record Store"... I've had messages from some people who couldn't find the link to order the new album. Hopefully the new name will be more obvious.
Thankyou to those of you who have already ordered the new album, "Symmetry". I am aware that not all of you own record players / turntables, but at the moment we're not planning on releasing the album on CD. People's listening habits have changed over the years, and it's increasingly difficult to shift CD stock. Music-lovers are kind of split into two groups... the "streamers" and the "purists". Streamers like to be able to listen to music anytime, anyplace & anywhere... and that's what Deezer, Spotify, Apple Music and Amazon offer. The purists enjoy the "ritual" of putting on a vinyl album. The natural pause that's required when it's time to turn the record over has actually shaped the way a lot of albums have been put together. Anyway, even if you don't have a record player, it's worth ordering the album, if nothing else for the beautiful sleeve design, lyrics and (this is news fresh in...) the TRANSPARENT vinyl! It's going to be a delicious piece of plastic...
We are in lockdown here in France until the 11th of May at the earliest, and it may be quite a bit longer before we can perform live again. I'll keep you posted...
I'm self-isolating at home with my son Lenny and our dog Molly.
I'm keeping myself busy working on music (adding some bass to some songs by George Smith in my studio), practicing sitar, teaching English to pilots via Skype, translating, and enjoying the Spring sunshine in the garden. It's perfect flying weather of course... but we're not allowed!

Alors nous-voilà, obligés de rester confinés pour un mois de plus...
On commence à prendre l'habitude et de s'adapter à ce train de vie très bizarre. Pour ma part j'essaie de développer mes cours d'anglais, de sitar, de guitare et de chant par Skype, Google Duo... et comme vous avez pu constater, ce nouveau site est conçu pour rassembler toutes mes activités (ou presque...) à une seule adresse.
Je me trouve également dans la situation étrange, ou je lance un nouvel album sans pouvoir même prévoir quelques dates de concerts pour l'annoncer ! Le seul moyen de le faire connaître est VOUS... et vos réseaux. N'hésitez pas donc d'en parler autour de vous.
Sur ce nouveau site vous trouverez quelques surprises... je vous encourage d'aller voir sur la page "Média"... parmi les audios vous y trouverez des enregistrements totalement inédits...
A propos, avec ce nouveau site j'espère pouvoir passer moins de temps sur les réseaux sociaux. Je trouve, surtout en ce moment, que Facebook est devenu une vrai fosse séptique (scéptique...), pourrie de bile et de pseudos "experts", et une perte de temps énorme une fois que l'on mords le hameçon et que l'on commence à répondre ou a argumenter ! Si j'ai quelque chose à dire je le dirais ICI... et j'espère gagner ainsi du temps pour des choses réellement importantes, comme passer plus de temps en famille et à faire de la musique.
Merci à ceux qui ont déjà commandé le nouvel album ! Je comprends que ce n'est pas tout le monde qui possède une platine vinyle, mais pour l'instant je ne prévois pas de sortir l'album en format CD. Le CD est en perte de vitesse énorme, et les habitudes d'écoute sont plutôt tournées vers le streaming (et le vinyle collector). Ô combien de fois m'a t-on dit "je n'ai même pas de lecteur CD dans ma voiture !". Ceci dit, si vous êtes 500 personnes à le réclamer, j'y réfléchirai !
Malheureusement nous sommes confrontés par l'interdiction pure et simple d'organiser des concerts, sans doute jusqu'au mi-juillet. Il reste quand même beaucoup de musique à découvrir... le nouvel album par exemple !
Restez chez-vous, protégez-vous et ceux que vous aimez.

Special international women's day

The first single from the forthcoming album will be released worldwide on all streaming platforms on Sunday March 8th.
The song is called "No Place To Be A Woman", and was inspired by highly publicised horrific attacks on women, both in India and around the World in general. You don't have to look very far to see the appalling way women can be treated in Europe too...

Hier nous avons fait le mastering du nouvel album, chez Globe Audio à Bordeaux. Pour ceux qui ne savent pas ce que ça veut dire, le mastering est un procédé un peu comme retoucher une photo dans Photoshop : on rends le son le plus joli possible !
Je n’ai pas encore fixé une date de sortie, car il reste le graphisme à préparer, et j’ai très envie de faire une quantité limitée d’albums vinyles.
Je réfléchis cependant à une idée qui pourrait vous intéresser : d’organiser une « Listening Party » (soirée d’écoute) sur Bordeaux début mars. Si vous serez intéressé et si vous voulez participer à une telle soirée, contactez-moi en message privé sur Facebook ou en laissant un commentaire ci-dessous. Je n’ai pas encore décidé où / quand le faire...cela dépendra du nombre de participants et de leurs disponibilités.
L’album est éclectique (vous me connaissez maintenant... je n’aime pas me confiner dans un seul style !). J’en suis très fier et j’ai hâte de vous le faire découvrir.

Ça y est, on arrive à la fin de cette année 2019... et personnellement je serais content de passer à autre chose après une année difficile (voir mon dernier blog...). Par contre il y avait du bon aussi... du très bon... ma fille ainée s'est mariée en mai !
J'ai également fait re-valider ma licence de pilote privé, et depuis j'ai pu faire de très beaux vols (allez voir ma chaîne YouTube: Music & Flights - Le Musicien Volant). J'ai également commencé un travail d'examinateur / formateur d'anglais pour les pilotes en France. Comme quoi... le hasard fait des choses, on peut avoir plusieurs passions et les vivre pleinement.
En 2019 j'ai (j'espère) fait le dernier pas vers la nationalité française. J'ai eu l'entretien à la préfecture début novembre, et maintenant j'attends... on croise les doigts.
LA bonne nouvelle c'est que j'ai retrouvé ma voix (merci au repos et aux conseils de Monique Thomas), et je me suis lancé dans le projet d'un nouvel album. Je n'ai pas encore de titre, ni de date de lancement précise, mais il devrait être disponible au printemps 2020.
Vous trouverez d'ores et déjà quelques "teasers" vidéo sur Facebook et sur YouTube qui vous donneront une petite idée du style du futur album. Vous pouvez regarder le dernier teaser en cliquant ici :

Je peux simplement vous dire que ça sera plus coloré, plus joyeux et plus personnel que mes autres albums. Il y aura une reprise (c'est la première fois que je reprends une chanson de Kate Bush depuis mon album Indian Summer en 2011...), et des invités : Christophe Maroye (guitare), Régis Lahontaa (trompette et bugle), Shekinah Rodz (flûte), Matthias Labbé (tabla)... Le mastering se fera début 2020, reste à créer le graphisme, puis à décider quel(s) format(s)... vinyle ou CD ? Vu que l'on écoute la musique en streaming surtout, il s'agit d'une décision difficile !
Il y aura peut-être une refonte de ce site... on verra.
En attendant, je voudrais remercier mes copains musiciens Thomas et Antony (sans oublier Pitchoon, Jean-Christophe et Matthias) qui ont subi mon humeur exécrable pendant l'été à cause de mes soucis de voix), et de VOUS remercier pour votre fidélité.
Des pensées à ceux qui ne sont plus parmi nous... et un grand "bienvenue" aux nouveaux arrivés : félicitations aux heureux parents Shekinah & Olivier Gatto et Matthias & Ronda Labbé. A très bientôt en concert ou ailleurs... A l'année prochaine !

Wow it's been a very long time since I updated this blog...!
I have been very busy with various projects. Firstly, I've been putting the finishing touches to an album I'm producing for an English guy. He's written the songs and is singing, while I'm arranging the tracks and recording all the instruments (except for some beautiful performances by some guest soloists!).
I have also been working on healing my voice. As some of you are aware, this summer was very difficult for me as I've been suffering from some serious voice strain and inflammation of my vocal chords... since April in fact.
We battled through the busy summer period, although I did have to cancel a few concerts regrettably. It was a horrible experience, and at one point I actually thought my singing career was over.
Not only has it been a difficult period to deal with physically, it's been a nightmare mentally. I was waking worrying about the state of my voice, and the worry stayed with me constantly throughout each day.
Thomas and Antony, my brothers in arms on the road, were very supportive, although they had to cope with my stress and the financial loss from the cancelled shows. Anyone who knows me knows I absolutely HATE letting people down.
After a lot of consultations with specialists, cameras up my nose and down my throat, endless tea and honey, a lot of Cortisone (bad for you...), I eventually started working with a voice coach, my friend Monique Thomas at Vocal Arts Studio. She has been helping me get the inflammation down and showing me how to stretch my vocal chords correctly.
I'm highly relieved to report that my voice is now back on track... I've been doing some gigs and it feels back to normal (or actually better than before). I now take singing a lot more seriously... I warm up my voice even on days when I'm not singing, and I try to avoid straining it when I perform.
I can't tell you what a relief this has been... to actually enjoy singing again instead of yearning for the show to be over... after all, even though you're suffering and struggling to get through the concert, you can't let it show and you can't talk about it. You suffer in silence.
To celebrate, I've decided to release a new album in 2020 !
I've started work on it already... but it's too early to tell you much about it at the moment.
All I can say is that this feels good!
I've also been flying as much as possible, I'm conducting aviation English language tests, interpreting... lots of stuff going on.
